Programs and Reentry oversees Inmate Education, Counseling and Treatment Services, Religious Services and Program Systems, and focuses on ensuring that inmates are placed in evidence-based programs geared toward their individual needs.

Major Programs

Core programs related to key areas of successful reentry; typically requires credentialed staff, standardized and evidenced based curriculum, and high impact to participant that inmates are formally assigned to.

  • Career Technical Education
  • Substance Abuse Treatment
  • DUI Treatment
  • Sex Offender Treatment
  • Cognitive Restructuring
 Inmates are assigned to these programs by the prison unit’s COIV or WIPP Officer based on objective factors such as risk to recidivate, need for program, eligibility for early release program.  Inmates are typically prioritized by those closest to release in conjunction with the previous factors.

Self-Improvement Programs

Ancillary programs facilitated by staff and/or community partners or volunteers that have a valid curriculum, offer positive skills and/or information to participant.

Examples:  

  • Reentry (Merging Two Worlds)
  • Courage to Change series
  • Money Management
 Inmates are typically assigned to these programs by the inmate’s Case Manager (COIII) and are usually voluntary in nature (exception – Merging Two Worlds). However, once assigned inmates are expected to fully participate and complete.

Pro-Social Programs

Additional programs that are facilitated by volunteers or community partners and provides additional opportunities for growth to participant. 

Examples:

  • Yoga
  • Creative writing
  • Community partner programs
  • Employment development
  • 12 Step meetings
  • Father Matters
  • Parenting
  • Coping skills.
 Inmates typically volunteer for these programs which are usually done in the inmate’s leisure time.

Peer Programs

Programs facilitated by inmates.

 Examples:
  • Creative writing
  • Public speaking
  • N.A.
  • A.A.
  • Life skills
  • Choir
  • Recovery Wellness*
  • Triple P Parenting
 Same as Pro-Social.

Post Secondary Education

Programs inmate may initiate with colleges and are done exclusively within the inmate’s leisure time.
  • Inmate self paid college courses; Second Chance Pell Grant tablet college classes (Ashland U)
 Inmates request to participate in self paid education courses through their local Education Supervisor; 2nd Chance Pell Grant college program using tablets are coordinated by Ashland U and inmates must be within 10 years of release and meet grant and ADCRR eligibility requirements.
