Director David Shinn's Statement on Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week (July 19-25, 2020)

(PHOENIX) - Governor Doug Ducey has proclaimed July 19-25 as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week. "Arizona is grateful for the hard work and dedication of our Pretrial, Probation and Parole Officers this week and every week," said Governor Ducey. "Your efforts are critical to keeping our communities safe and giving those serving their time a real second chance. Thank you for all you do."

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry joins Governor Ducey in acknowledging the great work of our Community Corrections staff for the vital public safety role they quietly perform in keeping our communities safe throughout the Great State of Arizona.

While they have consistently and admirably performed their post-release monitoring and oversight of numerous citizens returning from incarcerations, the unprecedented times of COVID-19 have significantly enhanced the challenges they must face. Arizona’s Community Corrections officers found solutions to each and every obstacle with innovation, enthusiasm, and creativity.

"Our Community Corrections Officers have met the unprecedented challenges of this pandemic by developing innovative methods to receive offenders back to our communities and maximize effectiveness of their supervision with the use of technology, collaboration with public safety and community partners and creative use of traditional in person meetings. I am inspired by their commitment to public safety, their dedication to the Department's mission of rehabilitation, and their unwavering support of our formerly incarcerated citizens as they successfully reenter society and positively change the trajectory of their lives," said ADCRR Director David Shinn.

The work Community Corrections accomplishes is essential to the successful reentry efforts of the Department. ADCRR employs approximately 200 staff including Community Corrections Officers, Supervisors, Counselors, Program Staff and Support Unit Staff and  who provide community supervision and services for more than 5,000 offenders throughout the State. Of the more than 39,400 people in custody, we thank our professionals for preparing them for successful reentry.
