Today, the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR) announces a new Director’s Advisory Committee tasked with providing advisory feedback and recommendations to the ADCRR Director Thornell.

The members of this new Committee will play an active role in ADCRR’s commitment to transparency and accountability while providing feedback on the Department's ongoing efforts to adhere to its foundational principles, mission, and goals.

“ADCRR recognizes that numerous professionals, such as community stakeholders and individuals with lived experience, have knowledge and expertise in topic areas that impact ADCRR. The goal of the Committee is to utilize members’ insight on topics including education, reentry, behavioral health, and gender-specific services, among others. When viewed within a correctional lens, their community perspective provides valuable ideas, feedback, and accountability to support the Department’s work of reimagining corrections,” said Director Thornell.

Scheduled to meet quarterly throughout 2025 at specified ADCRR locations, the Committee will tour prison units, discuss the various priority areas of which the Department seeks review and counsel, and provide formal feedback to Director Thornell.

Stakeholders from across Arizona will be considered for the nine Committee slots in the following priority areas::

  • Education
  • Substance Use Disorder (prevention, treatment, recovery, relapse prevention)
  • Mental Health Services and Self-Harm Prevention
  • Reentry
  • Vocational Training and Career Readiness
  • Tribal Relations
  • Peer Mentorship
  • Women’s Services

Members of the new Committee will be selected by Director Thornell through a formal application process. Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to begin that process by filling out the form linked here

Appointments to the Committee will be made in early 2025, with members serving a two-year, renewable period.
