INMATE DEATH NOTIFICATION – AARON SMILEY

ELOY, AZ - Inmate Aaron Smiley (ADCRR #150968), died May 18, 2022 from an apparent act of self-harm by hanging.  Prison staff discovered him unresponsive in his assigned housing location Wednesday evening and conducted life saving measures. Responding paramedics transported Inmate Smiley to Banner Casa Grande Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased later that evening by hospital personnel.   
 
Inmate Smiley was sentenced out of Pima County for Second Degree Murder.     
 
His assigned housing location was La Palma Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona.  
 
All inmate deaths are investigated in consultation with the county medical examiner’s office.
