The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is responsible for ensuring that the Department's Human Resources practices are handled in accordance with Federal law, State statutes and rules, and Department Policy. In addition, the CHRO oversees areas such as recruitment, position classification, employee compensation, employee relations, employee records, processing of personnel-related actions, employee benefits, pre-service and in-service training, and occupational health. Through various units, this team provides all necessary support to nearly ten thousand employees at the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR). The Human Resources & Development Group comprises four distinct pillars: Staff Development and Training, Human Services Bureau, Occupational Health and Correctional Officer Training (COTA). The Human Resources and Development Group is available at the central office and all complexes to include HR Liaisons, Training Officers and Occupational Health Nurses.

 

Staff Development & Training Bureau (SDTB)

The Staff Development Bureau is the catalyst for personal, professional and department development, empowering the agency and its people to exceed traditional boundaries. The Bureau supports pre-service, in-service, leadership and specialty curriculum development and provides in-service and specialty training to all agency employees. The bureau also administers the higher education tuition reimbursement.

 

Human Services Bureau (HSB)

The Human Services Bureau provides support and is responsible for ensuring the Department’s Human Resources practices are handled in accordance with Federal law, State statutes and rules, and Department Policy. The HSB supports employees with workplace concerns such as benefits, retirement and employee relations. Units within the HSB include:

  • Employee Assistance ER/EEO
  • Recruitment
  • Classification and Compensation
  • Human Resources Operations and Benefits
  • Central Promotional Register
  • Drug Free Workplace

 

Occupational Health Unit (OHU)

The OHU delivers comprehensive occupational health care to Department employees. This is accomplished in 9 prison complexes, the Correctional Officer Training Academy and various administrative buildings throughout the State. The services include, but are not limited to medical surveillance, communicable disease management, case management of industrial injuries, early return to work program, and medical certification for the Family and Medical Leave Act applicants. The OHU provides specialty training to include health education, safety and medical instructions.

 

Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA)

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA) provides all pre-service training for ADCRR Correctional Officers and detention officers from many county, tribal and municipal correctional facilities and serves as a state-wide training facility for in-service training including Tactical Support Unit training, Leadership Education and Development Program, Caseworker Academy, Sergeant's Leadership Academy, Canine Academy and other special programs.
