PHOENIX – Following today’s signing of an Executive Order by Governor Katie Hobbs launching the Arizona’s Reentry 2030 initiative, Ryan Thornell, Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR), released the following statement welcoming Reentry 2030 to the state:

“Our Department is excited to welcome Reentry 2030 to Arizona, where we are proud to have some of the most talented and dedicated community partners in the country already hard at work supporting the reimagining of our correctional system and transforming the lives of justice-involved individuals.”

“We’re grateful for the support that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs and others have given to Reentry 2030. This will help Arizona supercharge its work to improve public safety by making sure that people have the tools, education, community connections, rehabilitative resources, and quality job opportunities necessary to lead transformed lives.”

“I’m often asked how we can make our incarcerated population, our prison staff, our correctional institutions, and our communities safer,” said Director Thornell. “Public safety starts with rehabilitating and equipping people while they are still incarcerated, then coming together as a community to empower people on successful second chance journeys as our friends, neighbors, and fellow Arizonans. That’s good for public safety, that’s good for Arizona’s economy, and that’s the definition of good corrections.”

“I look forward to convening very soon with all of our partners to map out a plan of action for accomplishing Arizona’s Reentry 2030 goals. Together, we will make a difference in the lives of justice-involved individuals and every Arizonan.”
