Governor Doug Ducey showed his commitment to reducing recidivism in the state of Arizona last month by proclaiming May 21st through 25th as Arizona Correctional Education Week.
Governor Ducey has proclaimed July 17 – 23 as “Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week” in Arizona. I am proud to join him in recognizing the Community Corrections personnel who oversee the activities of the more than 5,500 adult offenders every day throughout the state.
We need your help. Are you interested in improving how ADC does business? Are you interested in continuous improvement? Help us as we roll out the new Arizona Management System (AMS) which is being implemented by Arizona state agencies. Join us and your fellow employees as we begin our discussion on the best ways to deliver better results utilizing Lean tools and principles. It is time to open a new chapter for management. The AMS directly supports our ADC core values of Professionalism, Responsibility, Integrity, Courage, and Efficiency (PRICE) by increasing the worth and value of each task that is part of your roles and responsibilities. Looking at our work in this way ensures that every action counts. Together, with teamwork and collaboration, we will apply the AMS to the important work that we do for the citizens of the State of Arizona every day
I have selected Keith Smith, formerly of Security Operations, to be the Administrator for the Office of Continuous Improvement. With 29 years in corrections, the last four and a half with us at ADC, and a background in Lean, Mr. Smith will ensure the effective implementation and sustainment of this initiative. The position of Senior Lean Coach for this office has been assigned to Ryan Allison, who, while new to our agency, brings a wealth of experience in Lean from the private sector. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Smith and Mr. Allison. I ask that you provide them your cooperation and support as we move forward in this important and impactful endeavor.
As the Director, I am honored to serve and support Arizona’s Correctional Officers -- some of the finest law enforcement professionals in the state. And while the important daily work of our officers is largely unseen by the public, I want you to know that it isn’t unnoticed. Today, Governor Ducey welcomed officers from each of our ten state complexes to the Arizona State Capitol as he proclaimed May 1-7, 2016 as "Correctional Officers Week". During this commemorative week we pause to acknowledge the vital contributions by these correctional professionals to the public safety of our communities throughout the state. - Charles L. Ryan, ADC Director
ADC is proud to support our veterans, and one way we do that is by participating in the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade. Every year the Department enters an expertly-crafted float in the parade. Made by inmates from the Barchey Unit at ASPC-Lewis, our float often wins a top award. Additionally, veterans on staff from our 10 complexes, as well as members of our outstanding ADC Honor Guard join in to represent the agency in the annual parade. Attached is a photo of this year’s float entry, which pays special honor to veterans of the Korean War (also the parade theme). Information on the parade can be found here: https://honoringazvets.org.
