Fugitive Inmate Who Walked Away from Work Crew Killed by Law Enforcement

PHOENIX (Wednesday, August 1, 2018) – Inmate Skyler B. Martin, ADC #317952, a fugitive who walked away from an off-site work crew assignment at the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control center in Phoenix on February 8, 2018, died Tuesday.

Martin was shot by law enforcement when he fired a weapon at an officer, and wounded a Glendale Police K9.

The Arizona Department of Corrections appreciates the continuous and courageous efforts by the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, including the Glendale Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies that helped investigate and pursue this fugitive inmate,” said ADC Director Charles L. Ryan.  “We are grateful for the safety of the officer involved and wish for the swift and full recovery of the brave K9 partner wounded by the fugitive.”

Inmate Martin had been housed at ASP-Phoenix West, a minimum-custody facility, serving a 7.5 year sentence out of Maricopa County for aggravated DUI.
