Inmate Eugene Maraventano, 69, ADC #315189, died on June 27 from an act of apparent self-harm, after personnel observed him hanging in his cell. Staff immediately responded and attempted life-saving measures. Paramedics also attempted life-saving measures without success.
Today, the Arizona Department of Corrections marks 50 years of serving and protecting the people of Arizona. On June 20, 1968, then-Arizona Governor Jack Williams signed legislation establishing ADC as a State government agency, overseeing Arizona’s correctional facilities. 50 years later, current Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has issued an official proclamation recognizing this momentous 50th milestone and celebrating where the agency is today.
